Nestled on the edge of DeKalb Peachtree Airport (PDK), the 57th Fighter Group Restaurant is a WWII aviation themed restaurant with an intimate 1940s European farmhouse setting that you will never forget. Beginning with the winding driveway dotted with old military planes and jeeps, you approach a mock Military Check Point Gate at the main entrance and quickly realize that you are in for a dining experience like you’ve never had before.
The sprawling restaurant opened in 1981 and was a favorite gathering point for locals and out-of-towners for many years. It has re-opened under new management and is now more popular than ever. The original 57th Fighter Group was involved in nine campaigns and flew 3,000 missions. There were books and even a movie made about their heroic efforts. Guests can view the historic aviation-themed memorabilia on display throughout the restaurant.
Walking past the sandbag lined walls of a historic bunker; the dining area feature cozy fireplaces and an open kitchen. The restaurant includes views of the outdoor runway, while serving up mouth-watering American dishes with regional influences. House specialties include French cut sage Pork Chop, Bourbon-Glazed Salmon, and 8-hour Braised Short Ribs as well as beef standards like Filet Mignon and New York Strip Steak. Don’t miss the Sunday Brunch, which is a delight with a delicious array of choices in an expansive buffet.
I love to take family and friends to relax on the outdoor patio, which includes a view of PDK, the second busiest airport in Georgia. The open expansiveness of the open sky over the runway provides a refreshing change of scenery. Sitting around one of the outdoor fire pits on a cool, spring or fall evening and watching the small planes take off is really enjoyable. Believe me, there is nothing like this anywhere in Atlanta.
The 57th Fighter Group Restaurant now features a “Wall of Heroes.” This special area is dedicated to the World War II Veterans, the greatest generation, who have signed their names and documented their stories of their contributions to our country.
Weekend Nights are a lot of fun in the lounge area, with a live DJ and an energetic, crowded dance floor for those interested in a little dancing after a great meal. Whether you visit for a complete meal, quick sandwich or just a drink, 57th Fighter Group Restaurant offers a variety of unique settings to enjoy and memories to cherish.
