Calle Latina brings the tastes of South American streets to Decatur, Georgia. Located in a prime location next to the MARTA Station in the Downtown Decatur Square, Calle Latina is a nice, quiet spot to stop and enjoy some delicious South American food. The restaurant is very cozy with a definite Latin American flair. It kind of reminds me of a café/bistro with its intimate seating and soothing Brazilian bossa nova music in the background.
The restaurant has limited seating inside but there is some additional patio seating out front for prime people watching. The restaurant also features at a small, yet solid, wine bar by the kitchen in the back.
During lunchtime, the menu is mostly dedicated to latin street food like tortas, arepas and tacos. The dinner menu is more chef-driven with a few street food options incorporated in the menu as well. Their chefs are Latinas where have been inspired by the recipes of their mothers and grandmothers. To continue that tradition, they use simple, seasonal foods from local farms and vendors.
We started with the empanadas and they were absolutely fantastic. The crab empanadas were delicately seasoned with habanero pepper, mango and cilantro. For an entrée, I had the Camaron Bahia, which consisted of seared gulf shrimp, coconut rice, charred mango and lime tomato broth. A few of their other entrees include Fried Adobo Chicken, Calle Fish Tacos and Arroz con Pollo. Overall, a great dinner and a memorable experience!
