Did you know tucked in a shopping center in the city of Tucker in DeKalb County is an ocean?? Okay, not really but walking in to Crazy Crab is like walking onto a shrimping boat in the ocean! The décor of Crazy Crab transports you right onto a boat. But for location purposes, I will tell you that it is off of LaVista Road in a shopping center off Ranchwood Drive and LaVista Road.
Crazy Crab is such a homey and neighborhood feeling all while thinking you are somewhere new. The staff was crazy friendly (get it??). I sat down with the manager and chatted about their concept. The manager gave me some background in the why. He said that they truly focus on bringing good seafood to the local area and anything they do basically forms from there. They saw a need for a restaurant like Crazy Crab and went for it! The team has many upcoming plans for entertainment and enjoyment. I can tell they are excited to take care of their customers by making them feel at home. They have awesome happy hour deals that I will be heading to for after work to enjoy so they’ve already got me on board.
I dined with a group so we could try many things, we sampled fried snapper, fried shrimp, fried whittling, and fried grouper. I loved the fried red snapper, which was recently added to the menu and becoming the top most ordered! The fried shrimp got a roar of food sounds as everyone dug into those. All of these came with the cajun fries (which I highly recommend) or you can sub out for any of the other options. Corn nuggets and fried okra are some others to try! You can really taste the seasonings in everything they prepare.
If you really want to get into the feel of the Crazy Crab, the ultimate thing to order is the seafood boil combo for 2. It is this amazing cornucopia of snow crab legs, shrimp, crawfish, clams, mussels, corn, potatoes, broccoli and deliciousness. Similarly, you can create the seafood boil yourself, adding in what pieces and favorites you would like and then selecting the spice or seasoning level. Think amazing oceanside seafood boil but you get to create it and enjoy all of it yourself!
I really enjoyed my stop over at The Crazy Crab and cannot wait for my next trip to the ocean over there. Hope you all get a chance to try it and don’t be scared to wear the bib, it can get messy!
INSIDERS TIP: Look out for Happy Hour specials, they are the best in town but not widely advertised.
