Food Terminal Serves Up Delicious Malaysian Cuisine

There has been a lot of buzz around the opening of Food Terminal in Chamblee. I HAD to go see and taste for myself. The restaurant is located in the City Farmers Market shopping center, which is a very popular new massive market stocked with produce and groceries from around the world. Food Terminal sits up on a small overlook at the center and looks impressive from the outside as well as the inside.

The dining area is open and spacious and features an outdoor patio as well.  It has a very modern Asian street look to it with its décor and lighting, which reflects their mission of bringing the most authentic Asian-style street taste and experience to Buford Highway.

According to their website, Food Terminal’s concept reflects Malaysia’s diverse culinary cuisine. Malaysian food draws influence from India, Guang Zhou, Hokkien, Teochew, and Hakka provinces due to the early 1900’s migration for tin and railroad lab demand. The owners, Howie and Amy, spent decades exploring culinary achievements, creating brands such as Top Spice and Sweet Hut.

The experience begins with perusing their magazine-style menu featuring beautiful large photos of their vast array of menu items, which is very helpful, especially if you are not familiar with Malaysian food like myself.

Lunch began with some appetizers including Wantons, Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce and Five Spice Shrimp Roll.  The Spice Shrimp Roll was delicate and light; the broccoli was thick and delicious.

For my entrée, I immensely enjoyed Penang Prawn Mee, which included Shrimp, fish cake, signature thin noodles, rice thin noodles, shrimp broth, spinach, bean sprout, spring onion, fried shallot, hard-boiled egg and chile.  It was all served in a large bowl with a distinct orange/reddish color from the broth.  A bit spicy, but not too much, the food had a fantastic combination of flavors and spices.  The noodles were fantastic and the shrimp perfectly cooked. A filling meal just in itself.

For dessert, the Mango Ice Cream was quite a delight. The mixture of the vanilla and chunks of fresh mango was outstanding and refreshing.

Service was excellent and the waitress took time to help explain some of the dishes and offer recommendations.  I will definitely go back to Food Terminal.  With so many options on the menu, once is not enough! / (678) 353-6110 | 5000 Buford HWY B201, Chamblee, GA 30341
